Preventative Dentistry

Preventative Dentistry in Bracknell

At the Blueberry Dental Surgery, we feel that the best dental care that we can give you is excellent preventative dentistry. This helps you avoid having to have complex dental treatment, so you have more time and money to spend.

We strongly believe that the best teeth you can have are your own natural teeth, so it is our goal to help you to keep them in the best possible health.

Our preventative programme includes Oral Health Education, Topical Fluoride Applications and Dental Hygienist Treatments.

  • Why taking care of teeth is important
  • Why we get cavities and how to best avoid them
  • How to manage gum (Periodontal) disease
  • How to brush and floss your teeth correctly
  • How to perform dental hygiene with correct dental products
  • "Tooth Friendly" diet

Your session will be followed by an application of Topical Fluoride varnish. The full session will take up to 45 minutes.

Topical Fluoride Applications

At our practice  we use Colgate Duraphat Fluoride Varnish which is clinically proven for the prevention of caries and reducing teeth sensitivity. It can also arrest early cavities.

Duraphat Fluoride Varnish Application procedure takes no longer than 15 minutes. It's a light golden gel that sets quickly when it is painted with a small applicator on to tooth surfaces. It has a pleasant fruity taste and smell.

A Dental Hygienist is specially trained in the prevention and treatment of gum disease, which is the main cause of adult tooth loss.  Regular professional cleaning, combined with looking after your teeth and gums well at home, will help keep your mouth healthy. A clean and healthy mouth will improve your appearance, help you to keep your teeth and give you fresh breath.

The appointments are 30 minutes or an hour long.

The Dental Hygienist will:

  • Reinforce the tooth brushing and flossing technique
  • Check the appearance of your gums, see if there is any plaque or bleeding
  • Remove any hard deposits (calculus) and stains by scaling your teeth
  • Polish your teeth

If you are nervous about the hygiene treatment you can request a local anaesthetic prior to the session.
